Duty: reset the dinner table. Owner: one child with an adult nearby. Finished: dishes carried to the sink, table wiped, cloth put away. Due: before evening play. Teaching: the adult demonstrates once, they do it together, then the child tries while the adult checks. If practice changes the evening, name the person taking over before leaving.

01Make the work clear

Start with four useful duties. Agree on the finish together; 'help more' is not an instruction.

Duty 4

02Teach one job properly

Choose the duty needing instruction. Show it, practice together, then check it calmly. Adults remain responsible for safety and appropriate supervision.

03Plan the handoffs

A busy evening still needs an owner. If someone cannot do a duty, agree on the replacement instead of leaving it for whoever notices.

04Review without a lecture

Praise a specific action. Re-teach an unclear step. A missed chore calls for an appropriate repair; do not withhold food, care, or affection.
