See a worked example

Example: the job is setting the table. Finished means plates placed, utensils ready, and chairs clear. An adult demonstrates, they practice together, and the child explains the steps before trying with appropriate help.

01Make finished visible

Choose one appropriate task and three signs of completion.

02Teach and practice

Keep help suited to the child; needed support is not a failure.

03Build a calm routine

Use one consistent cue and one predictable check.

04Review the teaching

Look for confusion before increasing pressure.
